Quick & Easy Ham & Cheese Baked Pocket

Now that 2016 is full swing getting back into a normal routine can be a challenge. It’s taken me this long just to get back in the flow of work, cleaning routines and getting my Preschooler back on a schedule. One of the main areas of planning that I struggle with is lunchtime. If I don’t make a plan on grocery day for the lunches for the week, I’ll get home with a hodgepodge of lunch options. My easy, go-to option for the whole family is lunch meat and cheese on bread, wraps or even baked pockets!

Over the years I’ve made some changes in the way I select lunch meats. I’m shifting away from meats made with a list of mystery ingredients to meats that I know I can feel good about feeding my preschooler. On the flip side, it also has to be something my picky little boy will actually eat! My son loves ham and cheese so I know that will be sure bet.

For the recipe I’m creating today, I headed down to my local Food Lion store and grabbed a pack of Hillshire Farm® Naturals Black Forest Ham. Notice from the package that Hillshire Farm® Naturals contain no artificial ingredients, preservatives, colors or added nitrites/nitrates except those occurring naturally in celery juice.

Here is the full list of ingredients:

  • Cheddar Cheese Slices
  • Refrigerated Crescent Rolls
  • 1 Tbs Melted Butter

Step 1: To make the ham easy to eat and load into the pockets, I cut it up in tiny squares.

Step 2: Remove 2 triangles of crescent roll dough from the package and roll them up into a dough ball. Carefully flatten the dough out to make a circle.

Step 3: Add ½ slice of cheddar cheese to one half of the crescent roll dough.

Step 4: Add the ham squares on top of the cheese.

Step 5: Carefully fold the empty side of the dough over the filled side and pinch the edges with your fingers.

Step 6: Using a knife you can gently cut a few slits in the top of your pocket to allow heat to escape the inside, then brush each pocket top with a little bit of melted butter.

Step 7: Put your pocket on a non-stick baking sheet and cook using the time and temperature found on the instructions of your crescent dough package.

Step 8: Let the pockets cool down a little and then serve!

Hope your kids and family enjoy this quick & easy ham & cheese baked pocket as much as mine do!!
