It’s 4th of July time again and that means summer is in full swing! The season for great food, great fun and spending quality time with friends and family enjoying the warm summer weather! This time of year I really love to try easy and affordable recipes, especially ones that take advantage of seasonal summer produce!
I recently discovered a whole bunch of amazing recipes from Giant Food Stores on their Giant Recipe Center website! When I saw the Philly Cheesesteak Burger recipe I knew I HAD to make it one ASAP. First and foremost because I’m 33 weeks pregnant with twins and when I see something delicious like Philly Cheesesteak my craving radar goes off and I know exactly what my next meal has to be!
The only problem for me is that since I’m only 4 weeks away from delivery my energy and stamina just aren’t there right now. These last few weeks have been super tough. So when my husband volunteered to cook this for me I knew that this would be the true test to see just how easy this recipe would be to pull off. You see, my husband- DOES NOT COOK.
Let me paint a picture for you. Last summer, on a family vacation, my husband woke up later than everyone else and proceeded to make his own eggs. His mom and sister stopped what they were doing, got out their phones and took a picture just for proof.
Lately he’s been trying to help me as much as possible and so when he was able to recreate this recipe himself and it came out tasting fresh and delicious, I knew this was gonna be a keeper for all our summer gatherings! Here’s how we made this Philly Cheesesteak Burger!
Ingredients:
- 2 tbs olive oil
- 2 cups thinly sliced onion
- 1/2 red bell pepper thinly sliced
- 1/2 green bell pepper thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup thinly sliced mushrooms
- 1 lb Sirloin steak, frozen for about an hour for easy cutting
- 1/4 tsp salt
- ground black pepper
- 2 slices provolone cheese, cut into 8 pieces
- 8 butter dinner rolls or sliders
Step 1: Heat 1 tbs of your olive oil in a large skillet. Sauté onions until soft for about 6 minutes. Then add your mushrooms and cook until tender.
Step 2: Sauté your peppers in a skillet until soft. When all the onions, mushrooms and peppers are cooked to soft, transfer them to a bowl while the sirloin cooks.
Step 3: While your veggies are cooking, slice your sirloin into thin strips and season it with salt and pepper. Heat 1 tbs of olive oil in your skillet and cook sirloin strips until browned and cooked thoroughly (4-5 minutes).
Step 4: Top the bottom half of your burger buns with a slice of cheese, a scoop of the veggie mixture and top with sirloin strips. Replace the top of the burger bun and serve!
I hope you find this recipe just as tasty and delicious as we did! Be sure to check out all the other affordable recipes on the Giant Food Store’s Giant Recipe Center. If you are tired of plain old burgers, they have tons of affordable and easy twists on classic summer favorites to add more variety to your next get together that are sure to please your foodie lovin’ friends!
