When I am choosing a gift for someone special, I want to give them something that they wouldn’t give themselves. I try to think of their biggest interest and see what events are nearby that would delight them for a 60th birthday gift.

Tickets to a Sporting Event

Is there a sport that they love? Are they tennis enthusiasts, golf watchers, or football junkies? Sporting event tickets can seem like a luxury to people; giving them this style of gift could be the event of the year. If you decide this is the route for you, add in an extra, like a team hat or jacket to wear to the outing.

Play golf on the green of their dreams

There are celebrated golf courses throughout the world. Here in North Carolina, we have at least 5 highly ranked PGA courses, not to mention the countless others that a nestled in pristine areas around the state. They can even drive the cart, it’s their birthday!

Celebrity Autograph

My dad’s man cave is full of cowboy western show collectibles like John Wayne, and Clint Eastwood. About 5 years ago I followed this autograph process to get my dad a free autograph of Clint Eastwood that he proudly displays in his basement man cave.

Getting an autograph from a favorite athlete or celebrity can be the perfect gift for “the person who has everything.” We all know and have those people in our lives that are hard to shop for because of their ability to buy what they want. An autograph is a cool collector piece that will surprise them and show that you are aware of their interests.

Spa Day Out or In

Nothing says milestone celebration like a trip to a day spa. Packages for these opulent gifts can be expensive when purchased directly from the spa. However, with a simple Groupon search, you can find local spas that have specials to fit any budget. Need to save even more? Throw your own thrifty spa party.

If the person isn’t into messages you can go for different spa experiences like:

  • Salt Hydrotherapy (amazing private outdoor hot-tub soaks)

Wine Tour Package

Wine tours are the new hot trend in regional tourism. There are so many little wineries popping up in every state that you don’t have to save all your pennies for a trip to Napa Valley. Google “wineries or vineyards near me.” Even in the rural area of Shelby, NC, we have 3 in a 20-mile radius. They are picturesque and always a pleasure to visit.

Brewery Tour Package

If your sexagenarian in more of a beer connoisseur, then a brewery package would be perfect! Take them to a brewery that will give them the full tour and have a tasting at the end. I know that with all the new breweries opening up, there will be plenty from which to choose. If they are close enough, you could consider a pub crawl of your own design.

Train Ride to a Fun Destination

We have the best time in our family going up to Maggie Valley, North Carolina and riding an original steam-powered locomotive train. The weather in the mountains is temperate and beautiful for 8 months out of the year, so we can go almost anytime. It is the perfect 60th birthday gift idea. See what train rides are available near you! Amtrak has some pretty amazing trips you can take too.

I have watched this video from Jeb Brooks several times on a ride from Chicago through the Rocky Mountains!

Tickets to See a Show at the Theatre

No matter the interests, there is always something great happening at the theatre. Finding a show that fits with your honoree’s enjoyments will be a meaningful 60th birthday gift. Things that I have seen at the theatre:

  • Jazz ensembles
  • Symphony orchestra
  • Cultural Music experience
  • Opera
  • Circus/acrobatics
  • Ballet/dance recital
  • Musicals
  • Live Radio shows like Prairie Home Companion or This American Life

If you have a really good budget or some serious hotel/mileage points you could also consider taking a family member to NYC for a Broadway show!

Tickets to an Airshow

My husband has always had an affinity for airplanes that he got from his grandfather. Being that it was such a passion of his, we decided to go to OshKosh, WI, for their huge yearly airshow. It was breathtaking and so memorable. For an awesome experience for a 60th birthday gift, let me explain How to Prepare For AirVenture OshKosh

Box seats to watch your favorite team play

Up the sporting adventure by acquiring box seats at a favorite sporting event. What sets box seats apart from regular seats are just a few things that make all the difference:

  • Comfortable seating with a great view
  • Private bar
  • Bathrooms that a reserved for the box
  • Catered food options that do not skimp!

Front row seats to see their favorite band play

Get the concert tickets to beat all concert tickets as a 60th birthday gift idea. My father is a huge ZZ top fan. I know it would rock his socks off to be center stage, down front to watch. If that proximity isn’t you sexagenarian’s idea of a good time, look into specialized VIP tickets with a box view.

Weekend Vacation/Gift Card to their Favorite Casino

My parents love going to Cherokee, NC, for a weekend every now and then. My family knows that a great gift is always adding to their fun weekend with a gift card or hotel night(s). You may have the same style of the person you are celebrating on this 60th birthday milestone. Help them have the party of the decade with this birthday idea!

Hot Air Balloon Ride

Take them to new heights with an exciting balloon ride. Most people have only seen the area below them from an airplane, if at all. This romantic and invigorating adventure is safe and fun. What a memorable experience to float hundreds of feet above the ground. Check out this article from Aerogelic Ballooning on what to expect from a first-time hot air balloon experience.

60th Birthday Gift Ideas- Tangible Gifts

high quality spirits for 60th birthday gift

I love unwrapping a present. We’ve been trained since a small age that this is how presents are given and received. If you prefer to give your honoree a tangible gift, I have a few traditional and unique 60th birthday gift ideas that you can wrap and they can receive.

Expensive Cigars or Liquor

If you’re ever gonna do it, this is the time! Break the bank on your honoree for a sip or smoke of something luxurious. This is an absolute splurge for most people. To receive such a gift would definitely go down as a memorable 60th birthday gift.

Professional Family Photo Session

Every year my mother-in-law loves to have our family portrait taken. Usually, we use a tripod and cell phone or camera to take it. It can get frustrating with the lighting, the timer, the toddlers, and all that goes into getting 10+ people to take a great photo. Hiring a professional for a family photo would be something my mother-in-law would love. Consider this for a 60th birthday gift for a woman in your life. If this is on your list of things to do be sure you read my post on how to prep for a family photo shoot.

Family Photos Made on Canvas

If you already have a great photo that you love, consider getting it printed on canvas to make a meaningful 60th birthday gift. We have several of our children and they are some of the most valuable things in my house.

Get them a tool or appliance they have always wanted

My parents tend to be frugal and practical people- kind of the “if it ain’t broke” mentality. Look for an item in their house or garage that could use an update, but they may not be looking to replace it immediately. This will make anyone thrilled!

A few years back when my mom went out of town we replaced her kitchen stove and oven because it was so old she was struggling to bake for family events without rolling the dice on whether it would burn or not. She was so excited to come home and find a brand new oven in the old one’s place!

Smoker/Grill

One of our family’s outdoor activities is grilling. We love to get together on the deck and grill up some delicious foods. If you need a 60th birthday gift for a man or woman in your life that loves to cook, this is the time to upgrade their tools with the best grilling accessories!

Z Grills ZPG-450A 2019 Upgrade Model Wood Pellet Grill & Smoker, 6 in 1 BBQ Grill Auto Temperature Control, 450 sq Inch Deal, Bronze & Black Cover Included

Outdoor Fire Pit

At a certain age, we are done with the traditional in-ground fire pits and would prefer something a little easier to clean and maintain. A propane fire pit is perfect for a 60th birthday gift. They require very little labor to operate and service. It makes for a wonderful and warm treat for the evenings. Our’s gets so much use throughout the year!

Patio Makeover

My mom loves to sit outside in the mornings and drink her coffee. She had a patio but it wasn’t an oasis. For her birthday while she was out of town my sister and I did a patio makeover with a good pressure wash, sun sail, some nice furniture, birdfeeders, and new plants. My friend Rhonda wrote a great post for Thrifty Little Mom on how to makeover a patio without spending a ton of cash.

Subscription Gifts

Why not get a gift that gives all year long?! Every month, your birthday person can receive a gift from you of their favorite item. There are subscriptions to fit all tastes and styles. Here are some great ideas:

Wine Of The Month Club

A little wine is good for the soul. Provide them with delicious and new flavors of wine every month. It’s better than a greeting card to let them know you’re thinking of them.

Chocolate every month? Please and thank you! My love for rich, hand-crafted chocolate can not be put into proper words. If your 60th birthday gift recipient is the same way, then tantalize with this.
